Green Guide Solutions - BinSight

Imagine a world where every piece of rubbish is correctly sorted, waste is minimised, and sustainable practices are second nature. Waste isn't just disposed of, it's given a purpose. At Green Guide Solutions, this is our mission, and our innovative product BinSight is leading the way.

A Nation Still Struggling with Waste

Australians care about sustainability, but many still find waste sorting confusing. It's common to encounter uncertainty at the bin or choose convenience over correctness. Despite strong intentions, this often leads to overflowing bins, contaminated recycling, and increased landfill waste. Green Guide Solutions exists to close the gap between intent and action.

Our Solution

BinSight is a smart waste management system that simplifies sorting through real-time feedback and intelligent classification. Using advanced object detection and machine learning, BinSight instantly identifies rubbish and guides users to the correct bin. It is designed for deployment across schools, businesses, and councils to empower users and reduce recycling contamination.

Our latest working prototype integrates a physical bin with a detachable sensor head unit housing a Raspberry Pi, camera, and power system. After successful fabrication, the unit has undergone both controlled and field testing to ensure robust performance across lighting and environmental conditions. Field trials have confirmed that the system reliably identifies common waste items even under poor lighting or rapid usage.

Who We Are

My name is Asier Goñi, and my business partner Jasper Giaroli, we are co-founders of Green Guide Solutions, and we believe in turning waste into wisdom. With backgrounds in mechatronics, electrical engineering, and sustainability, our team is dedicated to bridging the gap between technology and responsible waste management. Our mission is to make waste management an engaging, intuitive, and educational process that benefits not only individuals but also councils, businesses, and the environment.

Our core values are clear: we value environmental stewardship, innovation, and community impact. These principles drive our development of BinSight and ensure that our solutions are smart, simple, and sustainable for every user. We partner with local councils, educational institutions, and industry experts to make responsible waste management accessible to all Australians.

What We've Done So Far

We have successfully fabricated the BinSight prototype using a modular, lightweight plywood construction, allowing for ease of maintenance and flexible development. Our machine learning model has been retrained and optimised using proprietary image datasets to improve classification accuracy. To support efficient data collection, we developed a battery-powered ESP32-based camera system capable of gathering diverse training data across multiple environments. We then validated the BinSight system through a combination of controlled indoor tests and dynamic field trials, demonstrating reliable object detection performance across a range of lighting and usage scenarios. We have also secured key pilot partnerships, including a hardware stress test deployment with West Brisbane Junior Rugby League and an educational feedback trial at Kelvin Grove State College, with a third council-based pilot currently under negotiation.

Our Next Steps

To bring BinSight to market, our immediate priorities include:

  1. UI Development: Creating a user-friendly interface to display feedback and educational content.

  2. Branding & Marketing: Launching a targeted awareness campaign to promote BinSight across councils, schools, and businesses.

  3. Pilot Execution: Deploying and analysing results from each pilot site to refine both hardware and software.

The Future of Waste Management

At Green Guide Solutions, we see waste as more than just rubbish — it is an opportunity to educate, innovate, and build more sustainable communities. BinSight is not just a product; it is a movement towards a future where waste is managed intelligently, effortlessly, and in a way that protects the environment for generations to come. We are proud to be driving this change and are excited for what's next.

We invite you to join us in this journey. Let’s make waste management smarter, simpler, and sustainable — one bin at a time.
