A Nation Still Struggling with Waste
Australians are passionate about sustainability, yet most people have experienced moments where they weren't sure which bin to use or simply threw something away in the most convenient bin, rather than the correct one. Despite the desire to do the right thing, confusion and lack of accessible information often lead to improper waste disposal. The results are overflowing bins, contamination of recyclable materials, and valuable resources being lost to landfill. Despite the best intentions, the lack of accessible and straightforward waste management processes makes it difficult for people, councils, and organisations to make a real impact.
Our Solution
Introducing BinSight — a smart waste management system that makes proper waste disposal simple, insightful, and actionable. BinSight utilises advanced object detection and machine learning algorithms to identify types of waste in real time, providing instant feedback to users about where their rubbish belongs. Designed for deployment across councils, schools, and businesses, BinSight aims to tackle the confusion and make waste sorting intuitive for everyone.

Who We Are
My name is Asier Goñi, and my business partner Jasper Giaroli, we are co-founders of Green Guide Solutions, and we believe in turning waste into wisdom. With backgrounds in mechatronics, electrical engineering, and sustainability, our team is dedicated to bridging the gap between technology and responsible waste management. Our mission is to make waste management an engaging, intuitive, and educational process that benefits not only individuals but also councils, businesses, and the environment.

These principles drive our development of BinSight and ensure that our solutions are smart, simple, and sustainable for every user. What We've Done So Far
Green Guide Solutions has made significant progress towards bringing BinSight to life. Key milestones include:
Concept Design: Completed detailed 3D renditions of BinSight, ensuring flexibility in design for both council-issued and 80L circular bins.
Technology Development: Developed a ML model for waste detection, striking a balance between computational efficiency and detection accuracy. The model is already demonstrating proficiency in classifying materials such as aluminium and organic waste.
Data Capture Device: Built a proprietary data capture system using an ESP32 camera module to gather essential data for model training. This device, powered by a lithium-ion battery, enables data collection from multiple locations in a cost-effective and flexible manner.
Partnerships: Secured pilot programs focussing on educational aspects and high-usage testing. Ongoing discussions are in place to engage with councils as the third pilot partner to validate BinSight's analytics capabilities.
Our Next Steps
Our immediate focus is on completing the prototype and launching our initial pilots. Key priorities include:
Finalising Bin Fabrication: Assemble the physical bin prototypes, incorporating both user-friendly design elements and technical requirements for waste detection and sorting.
System Integration: Bring together the physical prototype and the detection algorithms to ensure a cohesive, fully functional product.
Launch Pilot Programs: Roll out our pilots to evaluate BinSight's effectiveness in educational, high-usage, and council environments, gathering feedback to refine and enhance our solution.
Branding and Market Awareness: Create a cohesive branding strategy and raise awareness through a targeted marketing campaign aimed at councils, schools, and businesses to promote responsible waste management.
